Six men rape 18-year old at gun point

Olaleye Aluko

An 18-year-old girl has been ambushed and gang-raped by six gun-wielding men in the Somolu area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim, Blessing (pseudonym), was returning from a visit to an uncle’s house at about 8pm on Saturday when she was attacked by the hoodlums, suspected to be cultists, on Olaosebikan Street, Bajulaiye, in the Somolu area.

Our correspondent gathered that the teenager, who was with the suspected rapists for about four hours, was threatened with a gun to “cooperate” with her assailants.

It was learnt that Blessing was taken for medical treatment at the Mirabel Centre, Ikeja, after which the matter was reported at the Alade Police Division.

It was, however, gathered that the suspected rapists fled the area before the police could arrest them.

When PUNCH Metro visited Blessing in her parents’ house, the victim, who worked as a computer operator, said the men raped her after they had accused her of being a lover to a member of a rival cult group.

Blessing, who said she had been asked out by some of the suspected rapists on several occasions without positive response from her, added that they took advantage of the fact that the area was deserted on Saturday.

She said, “It was at about 8pm on Saturday. I was returning from a visit when the guys surrounded me around Olaosebikan Street. They carried me into an apartment called Elewure’s House around Bajulaiye Compound.

“They forced me into a room in the house and took turns to rape me. They were six in number, but I know five of them. They are Raheem, Oriyomi, Sulaimon, Dudu, Orobo and Ronaldo. As each of them raped me, one of them pressed a gun against me, saying if I did not cooperate, they would kill me.

“I was with them till around 12am. Two of them walked me to a street near where I lived. I was tired.

“On the second day, I went to the Alade Police Division to make a report, and I was also taken to the Mirabel Centre in Ikeja for medical treatment.

“The hoodlums claimed that I was dating a cultist. They said they had asked me several times to date them but I refused. They said they would teach me a lesson. I want the police to arrest these men. I cannot go to work for now.”

When our correspondent visited Olaosebikan Street, it was gathered that one of the six hoodlums, known as Makayoko, returned from the Kirikiri Prison last year after serving an eight-year jail term for violence.

A security official in the area, who identified himself only as Comrade, told PUNCH Metro that the Elewure boys belonged to the Eiye cult group.

He added that each of them had a gun and robbed passersby, especially women, in the evenings.

He said, “There was an uncompleted building on Olaosebikan Street where they used to hide their weapons, and take women to rape them. Later, when the house was completed, they started using the Elewure’s House. They also terrorise Olatunde, Humani and Akinrinlo streets.

“On Tuesday, the Divisional Police Officer of Alade came to the Bajulaiye Compound to hold a meeting with the residents on how these hoodlums would be apprehended. It was decided at that meeting that we would hand them over to the police, anywhere we saw them. One of the policemen told me that the suspects raped the girl two rounds each.

“It was very serious. But we are going to work with the police to get them.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the gang rape, adding that the police were intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspects.

He said, “We are on the trail of the suspects. We have not arrested any of them for now, but we will get them.”

FEMALE CHILD ABUSE... LET'S FIGHT IT

Female Child Abuse is now an everyday topic in Nigeria.  This is a fiction by a reader.  Please do read and dont forget to share.

OMG! OMG!! OMG!!! He’s taken my virginity?

He took my dignity?

I couldn’t stop shedding tears after all these questions popped into my mind. I decided not to tell anyone as I have promised him and wished God didn’t see what his son has done. Am I foolish to be too nice to this man of God? Is he really a man of God? I was in a deep thought when my mummy entered and asked what was wrong… What was wrong? I couldn’t hide the experience I had in school with my chaplain ( a man of God? Devil)?.

My name is Bisola and I’m 18yrs old. I was just a normal girl in my school / class but known generally in school when it came to church works. My chaplain, a claimed man of God was one of my mentors back in school and I took him as a father who I could tell almost everything concerning my studies, christian lifestyle and personal things.

Did he see me as his daughter? His student? I never knew because he was just too nice to me whenever I went to his office to explain some things to him. Oh, can a devil use a man of God?

One faithful day, I got a call from him asking me to see him after my classes that day and I went straight to his office after the last class I had that day. I wanted to take my closest friend (Bose) along but since it was just an emergency call, I had to rush down to his office alone. When I got to his office, I met this young good looking lady who was on her way out when I entered “You this shameless man” was the last statement this woman said to my chaplain but I didnt give much attention either because I was tired or just minding my business as a young girl. Pastor **#**## looked sad and suddenly smiled when he saw me. He greeted me and I greeted him but couldn’t get the last statement off my mind “You this shameless man”. He stood up from his seat and moved closer to my seat, I didn’t get the message at first not until he started making some jelly fish eyes and rubbing my body while talking to me about some nothing topics. Could this be real? Am I dreaming? I asked myself but couldn’t get an answer because I was tensed. “Sir, I can’t do this….. sir I don’t even understand why you are doing all these” and he replied “Bisola, you are not a kid anymore, nobody will know about this”…. I couldn’t take it anymore, I stood up and ran out of his office.

Got back to my hostel and couldn’t stop shedding tears. Over what exactly? Was it because he backslide? Was it because I made him touch me that long? I couldn’t figure but I didn’t get myself all through that night. How adamant can the devil be before getting what he wants? I woke up to see a message from my chaplain, I ignored it at first for some hours but couldn’t keep my mind off it so I went back to the text message and replied with “Ok, I will come… 5pm is ok sir”… Guess what he sent at 1st? “Good morning sis Bisola, I’m deeply sorry for whatever I tried to do yesterday, please forgive me and let’s meet in my house outside school for a brief meeting”…. I was just 18 + naive over issues like this. I didn’t have anybody to speak to ( my parents were too busy to listen to me, especially about my relationship life and I’m the only girl/child) but chaplain was the only one that had my time. I dressed up, picked up my bag and went to his house. He was the only one I met in that big silent house but I never suspected anything since he’s a claimed man of God and of course my school chaplain.

Bla bla bla bla I couldn’t remember what happened but I was on a bed shedding tears, I saw a white bedsheet stained with red colour… “Did you paint the bedsheet with poster colour red”? I asked but never got a response from a man who disguised to be pained and remorse. I couldn’t stop crying because I lost my virginity of 18yrs that night to not just a man but my chaplain. “Please don’t tell anyone about this, promise me you won’t tell anyone.” I will!!!!! I shouted back at him, I will! You are not a child of God, you are a bad man and a bad example to the men of God. He returned everything I said to him with a slap, beat me like a thief that day because I yelled back. “If you ever tell, I will expel you from that school with ease, you B*#*#!!!! He gave me a bible to swear with and I did out of fear and shame. I couldn’t tell anybody, I decided to tell my parents but none of them wanted to listen to my complaints but sent me money thinking that was what I needed. I got pregnant for him and went back to tell him what he did with me then resulted to. He gave me 15 thousand to abort the pregnancy immediately because he wasn’t ready to be sacked, seen as a devil or destroy his family.

Since I couldn’t tell anyone about my predicament at that time, I went to a nearby hospital to make the abortion and I couldn’t stop crying after I had my 1st abortion. Abortion and the day I lost my virginity were likely the worst days in my life. Guess what people? By the time I decided to tell people what has happened, I have had 5 abortions for my chaplain within 2 and half years. Oh what a shame? I would have continued my dirty act with him if I didn’t develop this nasty illness that led to “Bleeding”. I started bleeding seriously and when I saw and noticed this, I ran back to my chaplain and he sent me away, tagging me as a bi#*tch who couldn’t close her legs and avoid temptation/s from an old man like him. I felt like shooting him, destroying everybody in his family but I was so sick to do so. I went back to my hostel and after some days of bleeding, my school contacted my parents to pick me up and get me treated as soon as possible.

It was too late for my parents to know what has been happening between my chaplain and I but I told them everything that has happened. My parents couldn’t take the news the doctor told them early on Sunday morning that I have destroyed my womb and it will be difficult for me to bear a child again. WHAT?! I’m just 21!!! OMG! I felt like taking poison and die to see me live that miserable life anymore. When I got healed, I followed my parents to school to tell the school authorities about everything that has happened but guess what? I felt like a fool and a prey after my chaplain denied all I have told them. He was believed because I had no proof to show and because he’s seen as a man of God. I left school with shame that sad day and never went back to school. I’m 29 now and I’m married to this young looking banker who loves me and cares for me. We have been married to each other for over 3yrs and I haven’t got pregnant but he’s not bothered about it.

Please should I tell him the real story?

Should I just play along?

Help me and let’s stop this evil act from men.

Who should I blame? Myself? My parents? My chaplain? My age?

It’s high time we need to stood against “Female Child Abuse”...

This is a fiction but I want people to learn from “Bisola”‘s story…

Please feel free to drop your comments and contributions.

It was like a scene in a comic movie as the supposedly kidnapped 24-year-old daughter of Hon. Edionwele, representing Esan Constituency,  Edo State, Jessica, was found right in the bossom of her boyfriend in Lugbe, an outskirt of Federal Capital Territory,  Abuja, Sunday evening by policemen from the command.

Jessica, last Wednesday was reported to have left Ibadan, Oyo State,  where she was serving, for Lagos to board an aircraft to Abuja. She was said to have landed Abuja safely but took an airport taxi that drove her away to an unknown destination.

While family and friends were terribly worried for what would have befallen the young lady, she allegedly gave her father’s telephone number to her ‘abductor’, who claimed that if the honourable wanted her daughter back alive should pay a ransom.

FCT Police was contacted  and they went in search of the ‘missing lady’. However, yesterday evening, the search yielded the desired fruit. Not only that Jessica was found,  her abductor was also arrested.

THISDAY reliably gathered that Jessica collaborated with her boyfriend to extort money from her father by feigning abduction.

According to a police source, Jessica on Wednesday,  left Abuja airport to her boyfriend’s house in Amac, Lugbe, where they both agreed to get money from the honourable through the story of kidnap.

“We got the information of where she was hiding from someone who had seen Jessica in the neighborhood and afterwards alerted the police, and both of them were seen and arrested in Lugbe”, the source said.

When contacted on phone, the FCT spokesperson,  Anjuguri Manza, said he was not briefed on the case.

Please lets take note.

This is a report on the present situation in Ibusa community, Oshimili north local government area of Delta State following the death of a 23-year- old undergraduate of the state- owned university.

The victim, Josephine Igbokwe, it was reliably gathered, had gone to visit her boyfriend in the same community when she was mysteriously hacked to death by unidentified gunmen.

It was further gathered that the victim had passed the night with her boyfriend, Nnamdi Okolie, last Friday and on the following morning was on her way home to her parents’ house when she was allegedly attacked by suspected ritualists who removed a vital part of her body.

Sources said that the parents of the victim was not informed early enough of the incident as the boyfriend allegedly took the corpse to the state -owned mortuary claiming she was sick and died.

But this was not to be when during nightfall, the victim was yet to return home. Confirming the incident, police public relations officer in the state, Mrs Celestina Kalu, said the police acted on a tip off when the incident was reported at the Ibusa police division and the police swung into action to confront the boyfriend who could not give details of her whereabouts.

She said that the boy was arrested and upon interrogation, confessed that the girl was hacked to death on her way home by unidentified ritualists who removed vital parts of her body. While saying that investigation was ongoing, Kalu said that the suspect was currently helping the police in its investigation and would be charged to court when investigation was completed.

In a related development, the police in Onitsha, Anambra State at the weekend arrested a man identified as Chukwudi Eugene, for allegedly stealing a six- month- old male child at Ose-Okwudu market in the area.

Confirming the incident, the divisional police officer, central police station, Onitsha, Mr Isah Abubakar, said the suspect was arrested around Abuja motor park when vigilante group members intercepted him with the baby.

Advice for the people who bleach

So I just stumbled on this piece:

By Chioma Obinna

LAGOS—The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, yesterday, expressed concern over the alarming use of bleaching creams and skin whitening agents.

NAFDAC also warned that such chemicals, aside from causing cancer, could lead to psychiatric and kidney problems.

It equally warned against the continued use of banned chemicals by unscrupulous cosmetics manufacturers.

Reading what seemed like a riot act in Lagos during the first NAFDAC’s Good Manufacturing Practice, GMP, training for cosmetics and medical devices manufacturers in Lagos, Director-General of the agency, Dr. Paul Orhii, said the use of glutathione intravenous as a skin whitener was unsafe and might result in serious consequences, including cancer.

He expressed concern that the urge to satisfy customers’ ever-increasing demands and the bid to make profits had driven some cosmetics manu-facturers into experimenting with raw materials with little or no safety records.

Orhii vowed that the agency would not hesitate to shut down any company, which failed to comply with good manufacturing practice or caught with the banned chemicals.

He said: “Skin bleaching is a cosmetic treatment to reduce the prominence of skin discolourations and even out skin colour.

“Some people apply skin lightener to their entire body to change their complexion, but this can be very risky. The active ingredient in some skin lighteners is mercury and so bleaching can lead to mercury poisoning.”

Teacher dies after Rape protest in Lagos

A 53-year-old teacher, Mrs. Folasade Ademosu, has died in Abesan Estate, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State, days after one of the pupils in her class was allegedly raped by the school bus driver.

Our correspondent learnt that the four-year-old nursery two pupil of the Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Ipaja, Bolu (pseudonym), was allegedly raped by the suspect, identified as Yemi Adesina, inside the classroom on Thursday, September 17.

PUNCH Metro gathered that angry residents had stormed the school on Akinola Road, Oja bus stop, Ipaja, the following day, and vandalised property, saying the school allegedly shielded the suspect.

The mob, which caused confusion on the premises, reportedly injured Adeshina before policemen from the Ipaja division arrested the suspect and some of the attackers.

It was learnt that in the ensuing violence, the 53-year-old, who was said to have pre-existing medical conditions, fell to the ground.

It was gathered that Folasade, who was invited by the police in Ipaja, and at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, for questioning, slumped on September 24, in her apartment ─ Block 68, Abesan Estate.

She was said to have died while being rushed to the hospital.

Our correspondent learnt that the victim, who reportedly bled for about a week after the rape, had been withdrawn from the school by her parents.

It was gathered that she had been enrolled in a new school, while the suspect had been transferred to the SDCI, for further investigation.

When our correspondent visited the teacher’s apartment on Wednesday, the deceased’s husband, Alhaji Ademosu, said the protesters injured his wife, adding that the school authorities should have rushed her to a hospital immediately after the incident.

He said, “Since the day of that incident, she had been complaining about her stomach. It was not easy that a woman of her age fell during the commotion. I expected that she would be taken to a hospital, and not a police station.

“On Sallah day, she kept on complaining about her body. She might have sustained some internal injuries. While the Sallah festivities went on, she just slumped and that was it. We rushed her to the hospital, but she died on the way.”

The pupil’s grandmother, Mrs. T. Ajose, told our correspondent that the school authorities allegedly refused to give her attention the following day when she went to report Bolu’s rape.

She said, “The girl turned four years on September 9; she had been attending the school since she was a year and six months old. It was when I went to pick her on that day that I observed that she looked moody. When I asked her what the matter was, she simply told me, ‘Grandma, I don’t want to go to that school again’. I did not understand what was going on.

“Later, when we got to the church, she said she wanted to excrete, and I observed that her faeces were stained with blood. I initially thought she had an infection, and cleaned her up, giving her a new pant. She was still moody; she would not eat and drink. Minutes later, her pant was soaked with blood again.

“That was when I raised the alarm and people in the church gathered round the two of us. We persuaded her to explain to us what happened. She said, ‘It was Uncle Yemi. He said I should not tell anybody. He put me on the table. And he covered my eyes and mouth. He put something in my bum bum.’ The following day when I got to the school, none of the teachers paid attention.”

The grandma added that when policemen came to the school for interrogation, the girl insisted that it was Adesina who allegedly raped her.

She said, “After I reported the matter to the police, the Divisional Police Officer accompanied us to the school. He ordered all the male workers in the school to form a queue, and he interrogated the girl. She pointed at Yemi (Adesina) immediately. The DPO did that four times, and she pointed at the same person.

“So the driver was arrested and detained at the station, but he kept claiming that he had not even seen the girl before. He said she lied against him. The police said the matter would be charged to court last Monday. As it is, we have taken Bolu to another school. She cannot continue to endure the trauma.”

Our correspondent learnt from a resident that it was Adesina’s alleged denial of the rape that infuriated the mob which attacked the school.

When PUNCH Metro got to the school, a school administrator, who declined to mention his name, said the proprietor, a Reverend, had travelled out of Lagos, and he could not give out his contact.

“The proprietor is unavailable as of now. He has travelled. We do not have any comment,” he said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said he would get back to our correspondent on the matter. He, however, had not got back as of press time.

Custom lifts ban on rice importation

The comptroller-general of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), has ordered the immediate removal of rice from import restriction list and the re-introduction of import duty payment at land borders.

The public relations officer of Customs, Mr Wale Adeniyi, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, said that the restriction was only applied at land border stations before now, adding that the customs boss had lifted restriction on rice at border stations.

He said that all rice imports through land borders by rice traders would attract the prevailing import duty of 10 percent, with 60 percent levy. Rice millers (preferential levy) with valid quota allocation would also attract duty rate of 10 percent with 20 percent levy on rice importation.

“Over the years, importation has been restricted to the seaports because border authorities have found it difficult to effectively monitor and control importation of rice.

“When the decision to ban it (rice) was taken, it was not an effective measure because the smuggling of the product thrives with people using different means of conveyance, including small trucks, bicycles and even animals – putting them on donkeys and some actually carry it on their heads.

“These new measures will be for Customs to recognise their anti-smuggling operations in the border areas and ensure that all those importers through the borders bring their rice through approved routes and pay their extant duty

“Before the ban on rice importation, Customs had placed different rates of levy on rice imports – 30 percent levy was placed on rice millers (preferential levy) and 70 per cent for rice importers. The purpose was to encourage local production.

Bank of Industry has established a N2bn entrepreneurial fund for members of the NYSC

This is so my business because I am a PCM (prospective corps member)

The Bank of Industry has established a N2bn entrepreneurial fund for members of the National Youth Service Corps.

The Graduate Entrepreneurial Fund was jointly launched by the bank and the NYSC in Lagos on Monday.

The Managing Director, BoI, Mr. Rasheed Olaoluwa, stated that the initiative was meant to provide solution to graduate unemployment in Nigeria.

Olaoluwa noted that judging by the National Bureau of Statistics’ data that of the over 250,000 graduates that enrolled in the NYSC scheme each year, over 41 per cent were without employment after the mandatory programme, because job creation had not kept pace with the growth in the country’s working population.

The BoI MD commended the NYSC Directorate for promoting an entrepreneurial mind set among the members through its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development initiative.

The SAED, a capacity building programme, was introduced in March 2012 by the NYSC as part of its orientation course content with the aim of raising an army of entrepreneurs that will drive the economy instead of job seekers trudging the streets in search of jobs.

Olaluwa noted, however, that corps members were usually deprived of the full benefits of the programme because they often engaged in numerous other activities during the orientation programme.

According to him, this also inhibits their ability to generate bankable business plans that can attract funding by financial institutions.

7 African migrants die after a ship capsized off Tripolli (photos included)

99 migrants were rescued and seven bodies brought to shore, including that of a little girl after a boat capsized just off the coast of Tripoli on Friday, September 18. A Libyan tanker, Anwaar Al Khalij spotted the migrants some 6kms off Tripoli’s main harbour at about 1pm and diverted to rescue the migrants.

Many of the 106 people on board had ended up in the water by then and some drowned instantly. Eventually 99 people were rescued and the bodies of seven people, including that of three year old girl. All of the people on board were from Africa but their nationality could not be confirmed at the time of writing. The ship sailed into Tripoli’s seaport about an hour and a half later, where teams from the Libya Red Crescent and the coast guard received the survivors, many of whom were still under shock. The bodies were transferred to Dar Al-Rahma in Tripoli Hospital for autopsy.

BUHARI SETS UP A BRING BACK OUR GIRLS COMMITTEE

Intense outrage in the Nigerian social media space greeted news of the appointment of Hadiza Bala Usman into the Presidential Inauguration Planning Committee of Nigeria’s President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.

Hadiza Bala Usman is the Founder of the #BringBackOurGirls campaign which was purportedly initiated to mobilise public support for the rescue of about 276 schoolgirls kidnapped in Chibok Town, Borno State, Nigeria on April 15, 2014.

The campaign, which has been criticized by observers for advancing the partisan interests of Nigeria’s incoming ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had one of its frontline activists, Nigeria’s former Education Minister, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili making the 2015 TIME 100 list for her advocacy efforts.

In 2014, Chief Audu Ogbeh, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) openly acknowledged the #BringBackOurGirls campaign as an offshoot of the All Progressive Congress (APC), a statement for which he later apologized after massive public criticism and outrage.

At the time, Dr. Ezekwesili had also frowned at Audu Ogbeh’s statement, declaring: “I am neither covertly or overtly a member of the APC, PDP or any other party. It is false and wrong to say @BBOG_Nigeria is led by members of the APC.”

But contrary to Dr. Ezekwesili’s assertion, Hadiza Bala Usman, Founder of #BringBackOurGirls is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a fact for which she has come under harsh public criticism against the background of her recent appointment by the President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari.

“I have NEVER denied being a member of APC. I have been political and will always be political but standing up someone’s pain is in my DNA”, Ms. Usman declared via her Twitter page on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have taken to the social media to express their anger over her supposedly non-partisan role in the #BringBackOurGirls campaign as Founder, and equally her new political appointment by President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari which betrays the partisan involvement of her campaign for the missing girls all along.

PRESIDENT-ELECT BANS AIT FROM AIRING HIS ACTIVITIES

President-elect ‎Muhammadu Buhari has barred the African Independent Television (AIT) from covering his activities, citing issues of “ethics and standard” that need to be sorted out with the broadcast medium. Acting on orders on Monday, security operatives at the Defence House, where Buhari is currently resident, would not let the AIT‎ crew into the building. Buhari received the Cuban and Switzerland ambassadors as well as other guests, but AIT was denied coverage. Speaking on the issue Garba Shehu, spokesman of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, said: “AIT has been asked to step aside based on security and family concerns. “In addition, Buhari has decided that they will have to resolve some issues relating to issues of standard and ethics. “We will be talking with them to try and resolve the matter, but for now the station has been asked to stay aside because, like I said, there are some family and security concerns. They have been asked to step down their coverage until we resolve the matter with them on ethics and standards‎. “You can quote me that I said that we have asked them to step aside and that we are resolving the the issues of ethics and standards with them.” ‎Prior to the March 28 presidential election, AIT aired a series of documentaries considered to have disparaged Buhari, his late wife and late daughter, as well as other prominent faces in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

20-year old Nigerian shot in the UK

20 year old Nigerian young man, Ola Raji, was stabbed to
death last week Tuesday while cycling through an estate in

Many flee Ondo state because of unknown ailment

Many residents of Ode Irele, the headquarters of Irele Local Government area of Ondo State, are now fleeing the town following the rise in the number deaths from the strange ailment that hit the place on Wednesday.

The state government on Friday confirmed that 17 persons had died from the disease, an increase from the 12 that were originally confirmed. Some sources said the death toll resulting from the disease was as high as 30.

While the government said the cause of the ailment was not known, other sources from the community blamed the death on some people that defiled the shrine of the community deity known as Malokun.

According to the source, strange death was caused by some people who incurred the wrath of the deity when they stole some artifacts from the shrine.

Stating that the government had put necessary machinery in motion to control the disease, Governor Olusegun Mimiko said samples collected did not show that the victims died of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

Mimiko, who said the state had witnessed a major health challenge said the causative agents, diagnosis and cure are also yet to be determined.

While stating the he was saddened by the losses and the attendant fear of what looks like an epidemic, he said the government can only bring words of consolation to the families of the deceased just as he assured the people of the state of the government's resolve to find solution.

Mimiko said amidst conflicting and confusing information, the investigating team of experts sent by government to the area gathered that all the casualties died within hours of affliction. In all, 17 deaths have been confirmed in Ayadi Community and Ode Irele township and all the
deaths were preceded by symptoms of sudden blurred vision, headache and loss of consciousness.

"It must be said that the team was despatched to the communities affected and the General Hospital as well as other health facilities,
to gather needed information about the nature, scope and circumstances of the outbreak..

"I must state that the symptoms in this situation are not peculiar to any known epidemic and so have remained largely confounding.

"Specifically, it must be stressed, the symptoms observed in the two communities of Ayadi and Ode Irele bear no resemblance to those
associated with the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)", he said.

LOL....SEE THE NEW JOB REQUIREMENTS

I was going through webpage and searching for firms that needs planning consultants, lo and behold I stumbled upon an Abuja based firm interested in such professionals. I clicked and opened the portal but to my dismay read that the firm needs light skinned females (I am a dark skinned male).

Question now is, has it gotten to this level in Nigeria where employers now stereotype based on skin colour? Or are the business planning consultants now doing ashawo works for their paymasters or their customers?

APC Zones Senate Presidency To N'central, Speaker To N'east

Arising from a meeting in Abuja Thursday night, the national leaders and national caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have officially zoned the office of the Senate President in the 8th Senate to the North central geo-political zone, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives was zoned to the North-east geo-political zone.

A source at the APC meeting which lasted till the wee-hours of Friday told THISDAY that the party leaders accepted in principle a prototype office sharing formula that would accommodate all vested interests within the party.

The source said: “After deft negotiations, the leaders agreed to cede the position of the Senate President to the North-central and that of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the North-east. They also endorsed a zoning arrangement that would see the South-west producing the Deputy Senate President and South-south, Deputy Speaker.”

With the agreement yesterday, the current minority leader in the Senate, George Akume from Benue State and Senator Bukola Saraki from Kwara State are expected to engage each other in a fierce contest for the Senate Presidency.

It was learnt that the position of the Speaker was earlier allotted to the South-west but had to be moved to North-east following a strong lobby by leaders from the zone who argued that such arrangement was necessary to compensate them for the massive support for the party during the election.

Apart from the sharing arrangement for the principal positions, the APC meeting which had personalities like the former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu and some governors in attendance also considered the issue of ministerial appointments.

In line with THISDAY exclusive story yesterday, the APC leaders also zoned the office of the Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT) to Adamawa State, where the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is set to clinch the position that was hitherto held by the former governor of Osun State and former national chairman of the party, Bisi Akande.

The source hinted further that the party zoned the office of the Majority Leader of the Senate to the South-west.

However, South-east did not get any position in the current allocation but according to a top notch APC member, the zone will be compensated by other appointments to ensure some balance and equity. In all the eight senatorial seats in the zone, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all the seats. This has made it impossible for the zone to aspire for any principal office in the senate.

The same thing happened in the zone for the House of Representatives. No single member of the House of Representatives from the zone is from the APC. PDP won all the National Assembly seats in both arms of the National Assembly. In fact, in the Presidential Election, the APC did not score up to 15 percent in any of the states in the southeast.

Another source at the Abuja meeting said the APC chieftains could not however conclude deliberations on the ministerial appointments as it was decided that stakeholders in the states and zonal levels should go back to the areas to hold consultations on the matter.

It was resolved that the state chapters of the party would each nominate three persons for ministerial consideration and are to submit same to the party through the Vice Chairmen and Deputy National Chairmen on or before Tuesday next week.

The source added that another meeting of the party leadership is scheduled to hold on Tuesday where they hope to harmonize issues and finalize discussions on the recommendations to be presented to the National Executive Committees (NEC) of the party.

“While the President- elect, General Muhammadu Buhari had asked the party to discuss the issue of ministerial appointments and to advise him as appropriate, he has insisted on retaining the transition committee list. Buhari had in choosing members of the transition committee made sure that each of them is tested expert in the various sectors where they will serve. He was said to be very conscious of their level of integrity and honesty,” added the source.

A top member of the APC who spoke to THISDAY last night on condition of anonymity said: “All the positions said to have been shared are yet to be firmed. Nothing can be confirmed until the final meeting next week.” He advised that all reports about sharing of positions should be disregarded until next week when a final decision would be taken.
